Step 2: Food-Grade vs. Industrial

Food-grade IBC totes are containers that have either never been used or have only been used to store food-safe materials (juices, syrups, oils, flavorings). They meet FDA requirements for contact with food products. If you plan to store drinking water, food ingredients, or anything intended for human consumption, you need a food-grade tote.

Industrial-grade IBC totes are containers that have been used for non-food materials — chemicals, detergents, coatings, industrial liquids. Even after thorough cleaning, these should not be used for food storage due to potential chemical absorption into the HDPE plastic.

When buying used, always ask about the previous contents. We track and disclose the history of every tote we sell so you can make an informed decision.

Step 3: Choose Your Grade

For used totes, grading tells you the cosmetic and functional condition:

Grade A

Like new. Minimal cosmetic wear. Clean bottle. Straight cage. Best for visible or customer-facing applications.

Grade B

Good condition. Minor staining or light scratches. Cage may have slight surface rust. Great all-purpose choice.

Grade C

Fair condition. Noticeable wear. Fully functional but cosmetically imperfect. Ideal for budget applications or outdoor use.
