Why Buy Used IBC Totes?
Used IBC totes offer the same core functionality as new containers at a dramatically lower price point. A standard 275-gallon IBC tote that costs $300 or more new can be purchased used for under $100 in good condition. For businesses that go through dozens or hundreds of totes, the savings add up fast — we are talking thousands of dollars per quarter for mid-size operations.
Beyond cost savings, buying used is one of the most impactful environmental choices a business can make. Every used tote purchased is one fewer new container manufactured — saving the energy, raw materials, and carbon emissions associated with producing HDPE plastic and galvanized steel from scratch. Manufacturing a single new IBC tote generates approximately 18 kg of CO2. Multiply that by 100 totes and you have prevented nearly 2 metric tons of carbon emissions just by choosing used.
All of our used IBC totes are thoroughly inspected before sale. We check the bottle for cracks, warping, and UV degradation. We test the cage for structural integrity — every bar, every weld. We verify valve operation and check for proper sealing. We inspect the pallet base for rot, cracks, and load-bearing capacity. Every tote receives a grade (A, B, or C) so you know exactly what you are getting.
We also track the history of every container we sell. We know what was previously stored in it, how many times it has been used, and what condition it was in when we received it. This traceability is critical for buyers who need food-grade containers or who must document their supply chain for compliance purposes.
Our 8-Point Inspection Process
Visual Inspection
Full exterior and interior examination for cracks, warping, discoloration, and contamination residue.
Structural Test
Cage bars checked for bends, breaks, and weld integrity. Must support full load weight without flex.
Valve Function
Butterfly valve tested for smooth operation, proper sealing, and gasket condition. Leaking valves replaced.
Bottle Integrity
HDPE bottle checked for UV degradation (yellowing, brittleness), stress cracks, and wall thickness.
Pallet Check
Wood, plastic, or steel pallet inspected for rot, cracks, and forklift entry clearance.
Odor Assessment
Interior sniff test for residual chemical or biological odors that indicate contamination.
Fill Opening
Top lid seal, gasket, and threads inspected for proper closure and contamination prevention.
Grade & Label
Tote receives A, B, or C grade. Previous contents documented. Ready for inventory.
Grading System Explained
Grade A — Like New
Minimal signs of use. Clean bottle with no significant staining or discoloration. Cage is straight with no dents or rust. Original valve is functional. Suitable for food-grade storage and clean liquid applications.
Ideal for: Food storage, potable water, clean chemical storage, agriculture
Savings: Up to 50% off new
Availability: Limited — high demand
Grade B — Good Condition
Light to moderate signs of use. May have minor staining or light scratches on the bottle. Cage may show slight surface rust but is structurally sound. Valve functions properly. Great value for non-food applications.
Ideal for: Industrial liquids, non-potable water, cleaning solutions, fertilizers
Savings: Up to 60% off new
Availability: Good — most common grade
Grade C — Fair / Usable
Noticeable signs of use. Bottle may have moderate staining or discoloration. Cage may have minor dents or surface rust. Fully functional but cosmetically imperfect. Excellent for non-critical or outdoor applications.
Ideal for: Rainwater collection, garden irrigation, waste storage, outdoor use
Savings: Up to 70% off new
Availability: Abundant — best value

Tips for Maintaining Your Used IBC Totes
Proper care extends the lifespan of your totes significantly. Here are our expert recommendations:
- Store indoors or under cover whenever possible. UV exposure is the #1 cause of HDPE degradation, causing the plastic to become brittle and yellow over time.
- Rinse totes between uses, especially when switching between different liquids. Residue buildup can stain the bottle and create chemical reactions with new contents.
- Never stack more than 2 full totes high. The bottom tote supports over 2,400 lbs when the top is full. Exceeding this can crush the cage and rupture the bottle.
- Inspect valves monthly if in active use. Replace gaskets at the first sign of dripping. A leaking valve wastes product and can create safety hazards.
- Keep totes off bare ground to prevent pallet rot (wood pallets) or moisture damage. Use concrete pads, gravel beds, or plastic sheeting as a base.
- In freezing climates, never store full water totes outdoors. Water expansion during freezing can crack the HDPE bottle and damage the valve assembly.
- Label your totes clearly with contents, date filled, and any hazard information. This prevents accidental mixing and helps with inventory management.
